Connect your bank accounts and credit cards

How to connect your business bank accounts and cards to Forge, plus steps for specific banks.

Heads up: this article covers software that Forge doesn't own or control. Screens, menus and rules can change without notice, so check the provider's own help docs first. If what you see doesn't match these steps, follow the provider's instructions and let us know so we can update this article.

Forge needs a live feed from every bank account and credit card your company uses. We use it to reconcile your books against your bank statements and to keep a second copy of your transactions in case your accounting system falls out of sync.

Before you start

  • Have your online banking login ready.

  • Connect every account the company uses, including savings accounts and credit cards. If it touches company money, we need it.

  • The connection is read-only. It lets us see transactions. It can't move money.

Connect your first account

  1. Log in to Forge.

  2. Click Transactions.

  3. Click No bank feeds.

  4. Click Connect a bank.

  5. Search for your bank, log in, and pick the accounts to share.

Add another account

  1. In Forge, click Settings, then Integrations.

  2. Click Manage Connections.

  3. Click the + icon and follow the prompts.

Steps for specific banks

Most banks connect with the steps above. Click your bank if it's listed below.

Silicon Valley Bank (SVB)

SVB connects with a PIN instead of your login.

  1. In Forge, click Integrations in the left menu.

  2. Click Generate new PIN.

  3. Follow the prompts to link your SVB account with that PIN.

Chase Business

Chase connects with the standard steps above. If you also want Forge to view statements or schedule vendor payments for you, add us as a user on your Chase account. Only a Chase account admin can do this.

  1. Follow Chase's guide: How to add users to Chase Business.

  2. Use our email: [email protected]

  3. Tell us which access level you picked. We'll confirm it covers what we need.

Bank of America, Live Oak Bank and other banks that won't connect

Some banks block or drop third-party connections. If yours won't connect, or keeps disconnecting, download a transaction export (CSV) and the monthly PDF statement for each account every month after your statement closes.

Upload the file in Forge, or email it to your Forge inbox. Your inbox is your company name followed by @goforge.io, for example [email protected]. Not sure what yours is? Message us and we'll send it over.

PNC, Mercury, Wells Fargo and others

Use the standard steps above. If your bank doesn't show up in the search, message us and we'll find another way to connect it.

FAQ

My transactions are already in QuickBooks. Why do I need to connect my bank too?

QuickBooks shows what was booked. Your bank shows what actually happened. We need both to do a bank reconciliation, which is how we catch missing, duplicated or miscategorized transactions. It also gives us a backup if QuickBooks falls out of sync.

My connection stopped working

Banks sometimes ask you to log in again. Go to Settings > Integrations > Manage Connections and reconnect. If that doesn't fix it, message us.

Do I need to connect my personal accounts?

No. Only accounts in the company's name. If you paid for company expenses personally, send us the receipts and we'll book them as reimbursements.
